Perhaps today was pillow shaking day?

Passover is my favorite holiday.
Partially because spring comes in April right around the same time.
Also because my birthday often falls on Passover.
And mostly because it's the time we make some of my favorite foods.
To celebrate passover, one of the customs is to do a major clean-up in our homes.
The clean-up (equivalent to 'spring-cleaning') is a major one, where you clean under and above everything you usually don't get to throughout the year.
All this must be done before we sit down for the Seder - the major meal we have with the whole family (with all that yummy food I mentioned).
My mom told me a story many years ago about how there's a lady in the sky that does this house-cleaning before passover and when she changes the beds and cleans the sheets she fluffs the pillows and all the feathers fly out of them.
These feathers come down to us in the form of the last snow before spring - big flakes, fluffy flying feather looking snow.
I think this was the case today.
She may have cleaning a little early because we have about 4 weeks to go - but I am really hoping this was it.
Snowing....again.
Regardless, I comforted myself with a nice cup of tea (thanks to the Tea Lady I met yesterday).
Who knew Acerola Cherry & Fig tea can taste like liquid gummy fruit candy......mmmmmmmm

Now all we need is Passover to come by, spring to arrive (without anymore snow), and all to be well.

By the way - Did you see my avocado plant near the window?
That's MY avocado plant.
As in, I ate the avocado, cleaned the pit, put it in water, grew roots (the plant not me), put it in soil, watered it, and voila! Isn't it amazing?
I didn't kill it or anything!
I am quite proud of myself..first plant to stay alive this long :)

My word

I watched Eat Pray Love last night.
It was very fitting for a few reasons.
Firstly because my dear friend told me I would love it - and he was (as always) right.
If you are not personally familiar with me, you may not know a few facts about me.

  1. I love traveling in the unbeaten path. I get lost in cities where I can't speak the language (Happened twice) with only 2-4 hours before my flight (Happened both times..I should take a hint). I love exploring the local markets, worship places, and bus stations. There is something to be said for the experience of sitting down for with cappuccino and a sour cherry danish that you got from the busiest shop at the subway station in Budapest - and wonder where you are.
  2. Speaking of sour cherry danishes, I love tasting flavors of food I can't pronounce. I think that part of the experience of trying a new food is trying to pronounce it (with your mouth full of-course) at the language in which it is made.Tojás Gnocchi tejszínes spenóttal és a bor Sounds slightly yummier then Egg Gnocchi with creamy spinach and wine.

So you see how I could be perfectly suited to see this movie?
The concept of La dolce far niente is most definitely not lost on me.
Firstly, a crude translation: The sweetness of doing nothing.
This is an Italian concept of the essence of life being in the sweetness of idleness.
But how can you really enjoy idleness unless you arrived at it in a screeching halt?
That is my mantra most days.
I enjoy silence and wear the "I am in silence" tag at least once a day.
This means (if you look at my mantra above) that I am in overdrive all the rest of the time.
Enjoying idleness is a privilege for me.
Enjoying it for a year would be a little like sitting down to eat a slice of Chocolate cake, and not getting up until you have devoured it whole.
It is overindulgence, or being able to let go of control - depending on my mood of the day.
"You need to learn how to select your thoughts the same way you select what clothes you're gonna wear every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind."
I loved this quote.
I'd love to make it work.
I have to work my mind.

This brings me to the second reason this movie was fitting to see last night.
I met someone yesterday at a coffee shop.
It was a chance meeting, where the universe intervened and said; these two should bump into each other.
After having met this lovely lady, and hearing a bit about her journey through life - I think this movie meant a bit more.
So I sit here, sipping my coffee and send you all a wish to find something good to eat, a moment to pray, and someone to love.
And for me?
For me I wish to find my word.

Day 29 - hopes, dreams and plans for the next 365 days

My most important wishes I keep secret in a locked box in the left corner of my heart.
Most of them are only known to those precious people in my life that make me who I am.
The rest I am willing to share.

  • I dream for peace in the world.
  • I dream that everyone of my friends and family will be healthy and happy as long as they live.
  • I hope that I'll get to see my childhood friends B&T and their babies, and grow old near them.
  • I wish good things will come.
